Comic 4 - Checking the merchandise

Checking the merchandise

Panel 1:
Tess Durban and Aideen O'Neill are standing in front of a merchandise stand. Behind it, an older man is grinning benevelontly. The stall has T-shirts, vinyl albums, CDs and other merchandise, all of which heavily focuses on the visual motif with the letter 'X' on either side. Tess holds up a roll of tape.
Tess: CD's… vinyl… T-shirts and… rolls of black electrical tape?
Aideen: Come on, buy the electrical tape. You know you want to!

Panel 2:
The merchandise stand guy unrolls a roll of the tape to show it off.
Merchandise stand guy: It's not just any old tape. See? It's watermarked with the Cult of XünÿX logo.
Aideen: So you too can have Cult of XünÿX on your nippled.

Panel 3:
Tess pensively holds up the roll of tape. The background goes dark.
Tess: Y'know, I-
Aideen: Show's starting.

Panel 4:
The Cult of XünÿX enters the stage. Their keyboardist, on stage right, is a sullen looking older man in a trench coat with tall spiky hair and a long spiky beard. The singer is also an older man wearing a Gothic parody of a 1950s rocker's quiff and a trenchcoat. He is carrying a guitar that is just on the right side of being more suited to a trash metal band. From stage left, further in the background, the bassist and drummer walk on. The bassist, a large skinhead in a trench coat and top hat, waves cheerfully at the audience. The drummer, a woman dressed in punk rock style but with electrical tape on her nipples, flips the audience the bird.

ReinderDijkhuis This page looks a little cruder than the previous two. I'm not losing interest! This one was actually penciled back in January, in traditional media. Pages 1 and 2 were drawn recently and were almost entirely done digitally, which meant that I took full advantage of the digital tools right from the start.

ReinderDijkhuis I overslept and the next update will not be done today as I originally planned. I'm gonna move it to tomorrow (Sunday) and then the next three will be on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday so that will be the schedule for the rest of the month.

Xailenrath Digital's great, but I love traditional media! Feels more organic, and this is a great page!

ReinderDijkhuis I know what you mean. In some recent pages I've taken to re-adding grit into digital drawings using split brushes, spatter brushes and more. Moving away from the super-clean look…

Grey Garou Merchandise is the way to make money with smaller bands. Albums are almost considered obsolete and unless one is playing gigs almost continuously or to crowds in the thousands, just covering expenses is tough.

Ah, the Presley Vampire look, I see.

ReinderDijkhuis Yeah. Again, these guys started before the Goth style was properly codified so for the lead singer having a big coiff that just happens to be spiked is a perfectly acceptable look.
